Privacy is key: thought leadership event unlocks its value

As part of Privacy Awareness Week 2018 (7-13 May), the Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) held a thought leadership event hosted by the Privacy Commissioner, Samantha Gavel.

Opened by the NSW Attorney General, the Hon. Mark Speakman SC MP, the theme of the event, Privacy in the Digital Age, recognised that new technology offers both opportunities and challenges as the ever changing landscape we're operating in, making it faster and easier for information to be collected, analysed and shared.

The event featured key privacy experts from within NSW government and the private sectors who debated a broad range of contemporary privacy topics such as trust, ethics and the GDPR. A packed audience of more than 70 NSW public sector agency senior leaders and practitioners heard expert insights from MC, Melanie Marks, President of iappANZ, and panellists, Mel Comerford (Director, Cyber Security Operations, Office of the Government Chief Information Security Office), Tom Daemen (Director, Corporate, External and Legal Affairs, Microsoft Australia), Samantha Gavel (Privacy Commissioner, Information and Privacy Commission NSW) and Peter Leonard (Principal, Data Synergies; Consultant, Gilbert + Tobin Lawyers).
