News: Privacy Awareness Month 2017

Privacy Awareness Week is an annual initiative of the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA). This event has grown so large that it now encompasses an entire month! The purpose of Privacy Awareness Month (PAM 2017) is to raise awareness for all on their rights and responsibilities under current privacy legislation.

How healthy is your privacy?

This year’s PAM theme for NSW is: How healthy is your privacy? The theme highlights the importance for organisations and individuals to maintain a good understanding of their responsibilities for the handling of personal and health information and their rights under NSW legislation. As technology and legislation evolve, it is vital that organisations and individuals take responsibility and step up to the challenge of taking control of privacy management.

With May being Privacy Awareness Month and also Information Awareness Month, the A/Privacy Commissioner will provide service providers, both public and private sector, with privacy fact sheets and resources to address the identified gap in knowledge of privacy legislation. Many of these resources can be obtained from the website.
