Public consultation seeks feedback and input into Australia's draft National Action Plan
The final stage of consultation on Australia’s first Open Government National Action Plan (NAP, or ‘the Plan’) will invite further feedback from the Australian public ahead of the finalisation of the Plan.
A two week consultation period from 31 October - 14 November 2016, (CONSULTATION EXTENDED 18 November 2016) will provide opportunities for the Australian public to provide their input via written submissions and/or attending public information sessions to be held in selected capital cities around the country.

NSW Information Commissioner, Elizabeth Tydd continues to lead a contribution of state and territory Information Commissioners/Ombudsmen to the Interim Working Group for Australia’s National Action Plan. The Interim Working Group helped inform the drafting of the Plan, building on earlier public consultations.
Independent state and territory and commonwealth Information Commissioners collectively submitted a proposal to be incorporated within Australia's National Action Plan to align with the measures adopted by the World Justice Projects' Open Government Index, and these measures have been accepted for inclusion in the draft National Action Plan. This is an important step to maintaining and advancing open government in Australia.
The right of citizens to access government held information promotes transparency of government actions and decision making. It enables citizens to actively and meaningfully participate in government decision making and the development of policies for the provision of services to citizens and the delivery of those services.
The inclusion of the measurement of how citizens are using information access rights in the Open Government National Action Plan demonstrates Australia's commitment to assessing the effectiveness of this fundamental right. The analysis of these measures including international benchmarking will provide an assessment that contributes to Australia’s commitment to the Open Government Partnership.
Public submissions and comments received during this final phase of consultation will be collated and a summary provided to the Interim Working Group for discussion and consideration. A summary will also be published on the OGP Australia blog after the consultation period has closed.
