Information Commissioner looks at open government around the world in Information Awareness Month.

Information Awareness Month (IAM) is celebrated each May and aims to focus the community’s awareness on the importance of information, access to information, and the value of good information practices and policies. 

In keeping with the aims of IAM, Elizabeth Tydd, the Information Commissioner for NSW has published an article in Today, the national magazine for members of the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA).

Ms Tydd's article, which appears in the April-June 2015 issue, looks at open government and examines the current state of information access in NSW and around the world, and international approaches to effective information management. She highlights the importance of transparency and accountability mechanisms and citizen engagement in laying the foundations for open government.
