Our Structure
The Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) is an independent statutory authority, established on 1 January 2011.
The Information Commissioner is the head Chief Executive Officer of the Commission and responsible for the budget and management of staff.
As an independent statutory authority, the IPC does not report to any Minister. Rather, the NSW Parliamentary Committee on the Office of the Ombudsman, the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission, and the Crime Commission oversee the functions of the IPC.
The Privacy Commissioner reports to Parliament at regular intervals on the operation of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act) and Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIP Acts).
The Information Commissioner reports to Parliament at regular intervals on the operation of the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) and Government Information (Information Commissioner) Act 2009 (GIIC Act).
