The IPC supports International Day of People with Disabilities 3 December 2024
The Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) supports International Day of People with Disabilities 3 December 2024.
International Day of People with Disabilities aims to promote the rights and wellbeing of people with disabilities in society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of people with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. This year’s theme is ‘Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future’.
In Australia, 5.5 million people live with a disability, that is one in five people. Around one in ten people with a disability have experienced discrimination.
The IPC supports accessibility and inclusion while also supporting the exercise of privacy and information access rights of people with a disability, and has resources including:
- A ReadSpeaker on the IPC website which allows you to access information in audio form
- A guide for NSW public sector agencies that handle personal information about adults with reduced decision-making capacity
The IPC has also recently launched its Strategic Plan for 2024-2028 to include a focus on increasing the understanding about privacy and information access across diverse NSW communities. Currently, the IPC is developing a suite of Easy Read resources for launch in 2025.
