The IPC supports National Reconciliation Week, 27 May – 3 June 2023
The IPC supports National Reconciliation Week (NRW), a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements. The theme for NRW 2023 is ‘Be a Voice for Generations’, encouraging all Australians to be a united voice for a more just, equitable and reconciled country for all.
In support of the week, the IPC is highlighting Information Access Guideline 8: Care Leavers' access to their Out-of-Home Care Records for NSW agencies which focuses upon strengthening and improving access to Stolen Generation records for survivors and descendants.
The Information Commissioner and the Privacy Commissioner support National Reconciliation Week and last year joined Australian Information Access Commissioners and Privacy Authorities from around Australia in recognising the important role of historical records in truth telling and sharing history, intergenerational healing, redress and reparations for Stolen Generation survivors and their families.
Within the IPC, the IPC’s Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan further outlines how it seeks to improve the way it communicates with, and delivers services to, the diverse communities of NSW.
The IPC has many resources for citizens to assist them in accessing government information and privacy resources to understand their privacy rights in NSW.
