The IPC supports Local Government Week 1 – 7 August 2022
The Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) is proud to support Local Government Week (LGW) which is designed to showcase the work councils do in their communities, including the wide variety of services they provide.
Councils have a large influence on where we live, work and play, and make important decisions that impact the everyday lives of NSW citizens. The IPC supports transparency in information about how councils work, their decision-making and the private interests of councillors and designated employees.
Local Government Week celebrates the range and diversity of services councils offer the community. The week aims to help move the conversation beyond roads, rates and rubbish, to the important and far-reaching role councils play as the hubs of their community.
- Councils provide their communities with the services and infrastructure they need to work, rest and play, 365 days a year.
- As the level of government closest to communities, councils are best placed to activate healthy local economies and thriving neighbourhoods.
- Partnerships across all levels of government can help NSW build back better in the wake of bushfires, floods, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The IPC has resources to assist you in understanding your privacy rights and right to access council information.
We also support councils with dedicated agency resources in both privacy and information access. The IPC has an Essential Guidance Toolkit on information access and privacy fundamentals for Local Government which includes fundamental regulatory guidance to ensure that councils are able to meet their requirements under NSW information access and privacy legislation. Download the Essential Guidance Toolkit.
