The IPC is proud to celebrate Information Awareness Month and Open Government Week 2021

The month of May marks Information Awareness Month (IAM) which brings together the records, archives, library, knowledge, information, and data management communities to promote public awareness of information and improve information management practices across Australia. This year’s theme for IAM is Building Trust - Adaptability and Capabilities.

Open Government Week (OGW) is on 17-21 May and invites open government doers, leaders, and thinkers from around the world to come together and share ideas, discuss solutions, and commit to new levels of citizen participation in government to respond to and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of Information Awareness Month, the Information Commissioner is speaking at a webinar on the role of governance in data initiatives, privacy and information sharing: COVID and beyond, learn more here.

As part of the Open Government Partnership, Australia has also developed its third Open Government National Action Plan 2020-22 (NAP3) to help make governments more transparent, accountable, and publicly engaged. The NSW Information Commissioner is a member of the Open Government Forum.

NSW has led the NAP3’s Open by Design commitment, which promotes a government-wide commitment to:

• improve the accessibility of information held by government, or under government contractual or outsourcing arrangements, through the development of the key features for a nationally consistent approach to the proactive release of information commonly sought by members of the Australian community or which they identify as valuable and/or necessary for open and accountable government.
