International Day for Universal Access to Information - 28 September
At its 74th session held on 30 September the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed September 28th as the International Day for Universal Access to Information.
This is a significant outcome reflecting that the right to seek, receive and impart information is an integral part of the right to freedom of expression, as defined in article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. It is timely that the importance of this significant right has now been recognised through this declaration by the UN.
