Vale Judge Kenneth Victor Taylor AM, AM(Mil), RFD (1943 - 2014)
It is with sadness we acknowledge the passing of Judge Ken Taylor, former NSW Health Care Complaints Commissioner, former NSW Privacy Commissioner (2008 – 2010), former Acting Information Commissioner NSW (2009), and Judge in the District Court of NSW from 1991 – 2010.
During his term as NSW Privacy Commissioner, Judge Taylor made a significant contribution to the promotion of privacy and the protection of the personal information of the community of NSW. As Acting NSW Information Commissioner he championed the reforms to the Freedom of Information Act 1989 that would lead to the creation of the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act), and was involved in the establishment of the Office of the NSW Information Commissioner.
Judge Taylor will be remembered as a well-respected and fair man, and will be missed by all those who had the privilege to meet him and work with him during his time as Privacy Commissioner and Acting Information Commissioner.
We extend our sympathies to his family and friends.
