National Framework for the Assurance of Artificial Intelligence in government
Following the Data and Digital Ministers Meeting (DDMM) in June 2024, members endorsed a National Framework for the Assurance of Artificial Intelligence in government.
The IPC notes the Framework’s chapters on Privacy protection and security and Transparency and explainability. These include clear commitments to transparency and responsible disclosure, as well as respecting and upholding privacy rights of individuals and ensuring the protection of data.
The IPC encourages NSW agencies to consider how the new Framework supports their existing responsibilities to protect privacy and transparency in the context of AI and automated decision-making. Agencies should specifically consider updating their Agency Information Guides (AIGs) to include descriptions of how this technology is being used. Agency Information Guides are a requirement under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009.
