The IPC supports United Nations Day 24 October 2021
The Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) supports United Nations Day (UN Day) on 24 October 2021.
UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter, and the commencement of the United Nations. 24 October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948.
The right to access information and the right to privacy are both encapsulated in Articles 19 and 22 respectively of the United Nations’ Declaration of Human Rights. In NSW, these rights are protected under the:
- Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act)
- Government Information (Public Access) Regulation 2018 (GIPA Regulation)
- Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act)
- Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIP Act).
