The IPC supports PID Awareness Week 5 – 9 August
The Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) is proud to support Public Interest Disclosure (PID) Awareness Week 2024 which aims to raise awareness and understanding of the Public Interest Disclosures Act 2022 (PID Act).
PID Awareness Weeks highlights the importance of a ‘speak up’ culture for all public officials in NSW and how the PID Act works in practice to encourage and protect whistleblowers in the NSW public sector.
As provided for under the PID Act, the NSW Information Commissioner is responsible for receiving complaints made as PIDs about government information contraventions, while the NSW Privacy Commissioner is responsible for receiving complaints made as PIDs about privacy contraventions.
The IPC has resources to assist public officials in understanding Public Interest Disclosures, how to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner or Privacy Commissioner, to understand the process and procedures the Commissioner’s will apply in considering their complaint, as well as the information that may be of assistance in assessing the complaint.
In support of the week, the IPC is highlighting:
