The IPC supports International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples 9 August 2021
The Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) supports International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, commemorated annually on 9 August.
This year’s theme is ‘Leaving no one behind: Indigenous peoples and the call for a new social contract’, calling for societies to include indigenous people in social contracts to foster equal opportunities for all.
The UN is hosting a virtual commemoration of the day on 9 August, to discuss redesigning a new social contract for indigenous peoples, where their own forms of governance and ways of life must be respected and based on their free, prior and informed consent: https://www.un.org/development/desa/indigenouspeoples/international-day-of-the-worlds-indigenous-peoples-2021.html
The IPC is committed to promoting the right to access government-held information and the protection of privacy of people within diverse communities in NSW, and aims to ensure that its services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are accessible, relevant and useful.
