The IPC supports Indigenous Literacy Day 1 September 2021

The Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) supports Indigenous Literacy Day, celebrated on 1 September 2021. This year’s theme is Celebrating Stories and Language.

Indigenous Literacy Day aims to advocate, promote and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture stories and language. The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) hosts the day and works to raise literacy levels starting at a community level where appropriate quality books are gifted to organisations operating in remote communities.

ILF is hosting a free virtual event on 1 September 9am AEST with short video stories by First Nations storytellers (of all ages) from across the country. Learn more about Indigenous Literacy Day by visiting their website.

The IPC is committed to promoting the right to access government-held information and the protection of privacy of people within diverse communities in NSW, and aims to ensure that its services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are accessible, relevant and useful.
