The IPC supports Human Rights Day 10 December 2021
The Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) supports Human Rights Day 10 December 2021. The 2021 theme is ‘Equality – reducing inequalities, advancing human rights’.
Human Rights Day is the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR recognises the rights which everyone is entitled to as a human being – regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
The right to access information and the right to privacy are both encapsulated in Articles 19 and 22 respectively of the UDHR. In NSW, these rights are protected under the:
- Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act)
- Government Information (Public Access) Regulation 2018 (GIPA Regulation)
- Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act)
- Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIP Act).
