The IPC proudly supports Local Government Week, 29 Jul – 4 Aug 2019
The Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) proudly supports Local Government Week (LGW), running from 29 July – 4 August. The week is an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the work and services that councils provide to their communities. It is also a week to encourage people to explore the ways in which local government is part of their lives, and what their council does.
The theme for 2019 is Your Council which seeks to highlight how closely your local council works and engages with the community. Everything from council-managed childcare centres, libraries, cemeteries, sports fields and pools, to food safety checks, museums and galleries, building and development and pet registrations – are all operated by councils.
The IPC has many resources on our website to help you understand your privacy rights and your right to access council information. We also support councils by developing dedicated resources.
Recently, the IPC developed on-line Information Governance Agency Self-assessment tools. These tools will assist councils to conduct assessments of their systems and policies to ensure that they are compliant with privacy and information access requirements.
More information on Local Government Week can be found here or visit your local council’s website to find out what is happening in your area.
