Guidance for agencies on voluntary data breach reporting to the Privacy Commissioner

To assist NSW public sector agencies, we launched a web resource in August 2018 to support NSW’s Voluntary Data Breach Reporting scheme. This follows the Commonwealth Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme introduced under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act) on 22 February 2018.

Our data breach notifications webpage includes the existing data breach guidance and fact sheets on notifiable data breaches released earlier in 2018, plus two additional resources for NSW: Data Breach Prevention Checklist and a Data Breach Notification Form.

It also includes our Quarterly data breach statistics, notified to the Privacy Commissioner for the FY2018/19 Q2 and past statistics on Quarters 3 and 4 of 2017/18. Future quarterly statistics will be updated to the page.
