Local Government Week 2018
Local government and its many functions are a big part of people’s everyday lives.
While many people are aware that councils manage roads, rates and records, the breadth and diversity of their work often goes unrecognised.
Local Government Week provides the perfect opportunity to promote the importance of councils to residents, ratepayers and businesses – the whole community.
The 2018 theme is ‘The Power of Community’ and this week sees councils across NSW host a range of events and activities to showcase their day-to-day work for the community. A highlight of the week is the Local Government Week Awards which celebrates exceptional work done by councils across the state.
To support local councils, the Information and Privacy Commission NSW is undertaking several pieces of work specific to local government:
- A review of GIPA Guideline 1 – Local Councils on the disclosure of information (returns disclosing the interest of councillors and designated persons; and
- A review of the Privacy Code of Practice for Local Government.
Local Government Week is a great opportunity to explore all the ways that your council is a part of your community.
