IPC celebrates International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples 2018
The United Nations' (UN) International Day of the World's Indigenous People is a worldwide annual celebration held on 9 August, to promote and protect the rights of the world’s indigenous population.
The IPC NSW is once again proud to support and celebrate this important event.
This year's theme – Indigenous peoples’ migration and movement, focuses on the current situation of indigenous territories, the root causes of migration, and trans-border movement and displacement, with a specific focus on indigenous peoples living in urban areas and across international borders.
Each year, a commemorative event for this important day is hosted by the United Nations Indigenous Peoples and Development Branch Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, at the UN’s New York Headquarters, bringing together indigenous peoples’ organisations, UN agencies, Member States, civil society and the general public.
