NSW Privacy Commissioner Dr Elizabeth Coombs has today issued NSW Genetic Health Guidelines entitled: “Use and disclosure of genetic information to a patient’s genetic relatives: Guidelines for organisations in NSW”.
The guidelines were developed to accompany the amendments to the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIP Act) made in early 2012. These amendments take effect on 1 November 2014 and address the use and disclosure
of genetic health information to biological relatives.
NSW Information Commissioner Elizabeth Tydd will be promoting the rights of the NSW community to access government information and the importance of open, transparent government during Right to Know Week 2014.
